Monthly Beach Cleanups

Note: For all beach cleanups, please wear comfortable clothes, closed toed shoes and sunscreen. All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver, but volunteers under 18 MUST have a parent or guardian present at the beginning of the cleanup sign a liability waiver before the minor can participate. Pre-registration is NOT required unless group is bigger than 25 people.

 

January 2008

12th - Moonlight Beach, Encinitas, 9am -11am (Coastkeeper hosts cleanup)
Beach cleanup at Moonlight Beach. Meet on the sand at the bottom of the ramp.

  • Driving Directions
    From I-5:Take the Encinitas Blvd. exit. Turn west onto Encinitas Blvd /CR-S9. Encinitas Blvd /CR-S9.becomes B ST. Follow B Street to the beach and park in the large lot on the north end, or find street parking and meet on the sand at the bottom of the ramp.

26th - Windansea Beach, La Jolla, 9am - 11am (Coastkeeper hosts cleanup)
Beach cleanup at Windansea Beach. Meet at the end of Nautilus on the side walk of Neptune.

    From I-5 South: Take La Jolla Village Drive exit. Turn left on Torrey Pines Rd. Turn slight left onto Girard Ave. Turn right onto Pearl St. Turn left onto Fay Ave. Turn right onto Nautilus Street.

9th - South Carlsbad State Beach (Ponto Jetty), 9am – 11am (Surfrider hosts cleanup)
Beach cleanup at South Carlsbad State Beach. Meet at the state beach parking lot south of the jetty and lagoon.

  • Driving Directions
    From I-5: The beach is located 3 miles south of Carlsbad on Carlsbad Blvd.
    Exit Palomar Airport Road. Go west to Carlsbad Blvd.
    Turn slight right onto ramp Carlsbad Blvd. Merge onto Carlsbad Blvd. and continue 1.6 miles until you reach the South Carlsbad State Beach parking area. If you pass La Costa Ave, you've gone too far.

23rd – Tourmaline, Pacific Beach, 9am – 11am (Surfrider hosts cleanup)
Beach cleanup at Tourmaline Beach in North PB. Meet near the bench, just north of the public restrooms.

8th - Oceanside City Beach (Pier), 9am – 11am (Coastkeeper hosts cleanup)
Beach cleanup at Oceanside City Beach. Meet on the south side of the pier down on the beach.

  • Driving Directions
    From I-5 North: Take Mission Ave exit and head west. Pass Coast Highway. For free parking make a right on Cleveland St and park on the lots to your left. Then, you'd simply walk down Mission Ave to the pier area and meet us there. If you'd like to park closer to the beach, continue on Mission Ave to Pacific St and make a left. Right on Seagaze Dr. Right on The Strand and park in Betty's Lot, the lot immediately to your right. It's about a dollar an hour or $5 for all day.

Beach cleanup in Ocean Beach. Meet on the end of Ladera Street.

    From I-5 North: Take I-8 west. Turn slight left onto Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Take Sunset Cliffs Blvd. all the way until it becomes a dead end at Ladera Street and take a left.

    From I-5 South: Take SeaWorld Drive exit. Turn right onto SeaWorld Drive. SeaWorld Drive becomes Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Take Sunset Cliffs all the way until it dead ends at Ladera Street and take a left.

26th – Tourmaline, Pacific Beach, 9am – 12noon
Creek to Bay cleanup at Tourmaline Beach in North PB. Meet near the bench, just north of the public restrooms. To Register go to www.creektobay.org and look for the tourmaline site.

    From I-5 South: Take the Via De La Valle exit- exit 36- toward Del mar. Turn right onto Via De La Valle / CR-S6. Turn left onto Camino Del Mar / CR-S21 S. Turn right onto 22nd Street. Turn slight left onto Coast Blvd.

Bay cleanup at Fiesta Island. Take a right after you turn onto Fiesta Island Road and meet in the dirt parking area right after you turn.

    From I-5 South: Take Cassidy Street exit west until you reach Pacific Street. Turn right on Pacific Street and beach will be 1/2 mile.

Beach cleanup in South Mission Beach. Meet at the jetty next to lifeguard. Meet next to public restrooms by the parking lot and lifeguard tower.

  • From I-5 North: Take I- 8 West. Stay right. Follow the signs to West Mission Bay Drive. Make a left on Mission Blvd. (you will see the Big Dipper Rollercoaster, Belmont Park on the far left). Follow Mission Blvd. all the way to the end. At the end go right and park in the parking lot.

    From I-5 South: Take Sea World Drive exit. Follow the signs to West Mission Bay Drive. Make a left on Mission Blvd. (you will see the Big Dipper Rollercoaster, Belmont Park on the far left). Follow Mission Blvd. all the way to the end. At the end go right and park in the parking lot.

  • From I-5: Take Carmel Valley Rd. west for 1.5 miles until you reach Coast Highway 101 and turn left. The Torrey Pines State Beach entrance will be on your right.

    From I-5 South: Exit at Encinitas Blvd., head West/Right. Turn South/Left on S. Coast Hwy 101. Continue down Hwy. 101 pass San Elijo Campground and Restaurant Row. Seaside is located on the right hand side. Look for the large parking lot.

Beach cleanup at the Imperial Beach Pier. Meet by the north side of the pier at the end of Elm St.

  • Driving Directions
  • From I-5 South: Exit Palm Avenue. Turn right off the exit onto Palm Avenue. Follow Palm Ave. all the way to the end (you have to veer left at a light right next to the Goodwill; if you veer right you will head to Coronado). You’ll come to a stop sign when you get to the end of Palm (at the water) turn left onto Seacoast Drive. Take Seacoast Drive for about four blocks, turn left on Elm Street.
